Leverage your strengths for a more positive life
Mental strengths are built in capacities for thoughts, feelings and behaviors that everyone has to one degree or another.
Mental equalizer
Everyone’s strengths are equalized differently which is part of what makes each person unique. When you operate from your most powerful strengths you are more likely to feel more energetic, have more confidence and determination then you would from your lesser strengths. For example, one person trying to influence a local school board to stop selling soft drinks might speak up forcefully from a command position despite being terrified of public exposure. On the other hand, another person thrives on public exposure and enjoys meeting and greeting people and persuading them to come together to make a common decision that's best for all despite their inability to speak loudly in front of people. Identifying your strengths and leveraging them can help you achieve many goals. Through practice, effort and education you can learn how to use the strengths to become more attractive and have things go your way.
The re-branding of personal behaviors can be confusing. What was once called one thing is now being called another. ZEN used to be the word people used to describe what people call mindfulness today. It involves focusing on the present not the past and not the future. It is in the present that you get to pick your fruit and eat it too. Mindfulness helps you to focus on things right in front of you using your senses. For instance, you take a bite of bread and you take a moment to notice how the bread taste, or you walking with your dog and you take a moment to notice the breeze on your face, or you’re taking a shower and you take a moment to experience the water running down your body. Having your brain focus on these simple things allows it to release tension which shifts your chemical makeup causing a reduction in stress. The key to mindfulness is to reduce the chatter in your head. When this is accomplished as the chatter starts to come back the space in between each thing in your head it seen with more clarity and you have a greater understanding and more time to focus on it and get something done with it. The mind can only process so much information at a time. Whichever discipline you undertake for mindfulness one thing is constant with them all. And that is to focus on something simple and close by preferably something on you or in you like your heartbeat or your breathing or how your toes feel when you wiggle them. Focus on that for 5 to 6 minutes until you have completely forgotten about everything else and then start slowly bringing in other things like something you smell or maybe how hot or cold it is or something like how your tongue feels as you rub it on the top of your mouth. Once you have completed the exercise on that one thing only then should you start bringing external subject back into your brain like homework subject by subject or projects or family matters. Be prepared to take notes as each subject enters your head with clarity so that you can act on them and move in the right direction. You can practically leap forward in time accomplishing things when you learn how to successfully use mindfulness or Zen.
